Leadership
Apple is a public
corporation, which means that their stock is available to the public. The
current Ceo of Apple is Tim Cook. Tim also serves on the Board of Directors.
Tim was named the Ceo in August 2011. There are eleven executives of Apple,
including Angela Ahrendts, who is the Senior Vice President of retail, and
Jonathon Ive, who is the Chief Design Officer. There are five Vice Presidents,
including Steve Dowling, who is Vice President of Communications, and Isabel Ge
Mahe, who is the Vice President and Managing Director of Greater China. There
are also eight board of directors, including Robert Iger, who is the Ceo of
Walt Disney, and Albert Gore Jr, who is the former Vice President of the USA.
Some of the
challenges of managing Apple are that major companies are now making phones now
so Apple needs to be constantly one step ahead of their competitors. It is
either your team Android or team IPhone. Samsung is constantly creating new
ideas and new phones, so Apple needs to be quicker and smarter than them.
Google is the world’s most successful company and they are now making phones,
which is a huge problem to Apple. Apple needs to continue to make new ideas for
their phones or they will lose customers. Tim Cook has to be constantly in
charge and needs to make sure nothing goes wrong in the company.
Some job
opportunities are corporate, where you can decide what the next step is for
Apple. You can work at an Apple store, where you sell the products. You can
even work at home as an advisor, where you can answer questions. You can work
at Apple while still being at college. You can be an advisor or an intern.
Working at Apple, you get amazing benefits. The salary is between $9-$15 an
hour for salespeople. Software engineers make around $100k a year. While
working at Apple, you get discounts on the products, which is great because the
products are expensive. Apple has a yearly beer-bash for its employees, where
big celebrities perform. Apple is a drug-free environment and they thrive on
diversity and inclusion.
It is a grueling
hiring process to work for Apple. On average, it includes three screening calls,
five facetime interviews, and a trip to Cupertino for five two-person
interviews that last a whole day. The facetime interviews are thirty minutes
long and take three weeks. Apple believes it’s a good place to work because it
relies on diversity and inclusion and they depend on contributions from the
women leaders. They welcome Veterans to work for them, through their
experience. They will hire anyone from the LGBTQ community to the blind
community.
